Our daughter Mary Pennington started as a volunteer at Presqu’ile Park Nature Centre this year. She is enjoying learning from the naturalists who are working there, and of course, all the creatures that inhabit their displays. This is a natural job for her – she has spent a lot of time at the nature centre every summer of her life.
The sketch I used was from Becky Fleck’s PageMaps blog:
and here is my interpretation of it:
So very happy about the launch of another freaking scrappy challenge… today – go check it out and see what the guest DT did for the launch!!!
In the meanwhile all my friends over at Little Shop of Sketches have created some beautiful layouts for their latest sketch created by Lindsey Krauss.
Here’s Lindsey’s sketch:
And here is my take on it using paper from my stash that I no longer know the name of the manufacturer (yikes!!). The layout features our 3rd daughter, Jacqueline Pennington-Juranics. We were playing a game of Trivial Pursuit on the Wii that evening and I snapped a few photos of her. (We had a blast playing, by the way).

I am sooooooooooo freaking excited – today is the launch for my new challenge website – another freaking scrappy challenge …
The challenge is to make a layout that tells us about our dream! In our layout we are to incorporate any two of:
- kite, or
- symbols of our dream – we can use a photo or drawing that is representative of your dream.
Journal about your dream if you wish to in the narrative on your blog and to post a link to a scrapbooking technique or tool video in our blog posting. Go on over to the blog to see all the awesome guest DT layouts.
Here is my interpretation of the challenge. My journalling reads: “I have so much: a family, friends, home, and satisfying work and contribution to the community … and still I dream of a peaceful place of my own on the water … a place to paddle my canoe and to watch the sun rise and set …” The paper I used is KI Memories Inkjet Calendar, embellishments are from bisous bzoo pdq rainbow.
Here is my link to not one, but several scrapbooking technique videos at Club CK.
Bird is the Word blog also has a dream challenge on at the moment. Those who want to enter have to make a layout or project using the word “dream” in their project – head over to their blog to check it out.
Don’t forget our launch is on the 30th for another freaking scrappy challenge... We’ve already launched our technique twenty-second – go on over here to check it out!!
Sketchy Thursdays has a challenge on right now for a guest DT member. Here is their sketch for the challenge:
Here is my interpretation of the sketch using Cosmo Cricket Salt Air Sea Garden and Cosmo Cricket Upcycle Repeat. The layout features my daughter Mary Pennington at Mazinaw Lake at Bon Echo Provincial Park.
Tomorrow will see the roll out of Technique Twenty-Second at another freaking scrappy challenge … I think you’ll enjoy tomorrow’s tutorial, so why not pop out and see it here???
This will be a monthly feature where we will give a tutorial or share a technique with everyone. Do you have a unique technique that you want to share there? If so contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Little Shop of Sketches has a new sketch challenge posted. Come play with us!!! Here is their Sketch # 89 – another of my sketches that I was happy to share with their amazing design team and participants!!
My take is a layout for my son Chris Pennington, who is very sensitive to waste in the world and damage to the environment. He is always asking us if we really need something that we are purchasing – he is all for minimalizing our footprint in the world. After an environmentalist visited their school and told them how much damage is caused to the earth by the production of meat for consumption, Chris became a vegetarian. That was more than two years ago, and he has not looked back. I used Making Memories Passport Fragile paper for this layout, and used the QuicKutz Reuse Limited Edition Gift Set die cuts for the embellishments running along the banner I made for the layout as well as bordering the title.
Don’t forget we are getting ready for our first challenge at another freaking scrappy challenge … Already we have developed a following of people who are excitedly anticipating our launch with our first challenge on 30 July 2011!!! Come on over and feel the excitement!!!!
