In July 2008 Via Rail offered free travel for veterans and those who were working for the Department of National Defence. Since we both qualified, Mom and I decided to travel together to visit her family in New Brunswick. What a time we had – visiting the property where the old homestead stood, her grandparents’ home, cousins, my aunt and uncles, and where we used to live. Just a wonderful time was had by us both! I found a piece in the rubble of the old homestead of the side of the house, and put it in the scrapbook I made her of our trip. A month and a half after our return, she bit by bit had some setbacks in her health, and finally on the 3rd of December of that year had a devastating stroke that destroyed her ability to communicate or receive communication. March 8 of the following year she died, having never left hospital. I thought it appropriate that she died on International Women’s Day, as she had always been a unique woman!!
Here is my layout which I made for the challenge at Bird is the Word – their challenge word was JOURNEY. I used Making Memories Passport Ledger Teal as the background for this layout, a tag and a dinner reservation ticket from our train trip.
