We are getting some wonderful layouts submitted for our 1st and 15th of May challenges over at Another Freaking Scrappy Challenge … If you have not submitted yours, please hop over here and play along with us. Our scrapbook challenge website is a lot of fun, encourages you to scrap memories of your own past and present, and has a lot of wonderful designers to inspire and encourage!!
My wonderful father-in-law Ron Pennington fills stockings for each of us at Christmas. We look forward to Christmas mornings at his house where we open them and the rest of our gifts to each other. He gathers eclectic stuff year-round for his stockings, and we never know what we will pull out of them!!! One thing is for certain, they make us smile. One Christmas he was uncertain which of our daughters would show up with dates, and he wanted to be prepared. We all laughed when we read the names on a couple of the stockings – Boyfriend 1, Boyfriend 2, Boyfriend 3 – Ron never wants anyone to be left out or feel unwelcome! Here is a layout of our son Chris grinning at the small bottle of Scope mouthwash that he pulled out of his stocking Christmas 2010. I used one of Shimelle’s Scrapbook Starting Points for this layout, and used Bird is the Word’s prompt SMILE. Paper used is Basic Grey Nordic Holiday line.
We have our new scrapbook sketch challenge up at Another Freaking Scrappy Challenge … we are challenging participants to use the sketch and to scrap about their mother or another woman who meant a lot to them or influenced their life. Come on out and play with us – you will really love it!!
Here is my layout for the challenge using K & Company cut N paste Designer Paper:
The layout features my mother Marie (Mary) Allain Wride in her Royal Canadian Air Force uniform. She LOVED being in the military, and enjoyed a productive career until her marriage to my father, and pregnancy with my twin Gary and I (the women had to leave the military upon pregnancy back then). I used tickets for embellishments, as part of my mother’s love of the Air Force was the opportunity to travel and see sights!!
Wow – I had a lot of inspiration for this layout! First of all, over at Another Freaking Scrappy Challenge … we are challenging participants:
1 May is springtime, and time to be out in the gardens. Scrap something about your garden – how you love to be out in it, or what it means to you, or alternatively how you hate to be outside gardening at all. If you are not a gardener – you could also alternatively scrap about an outdoor sanctuary that you appreciate – perhaps your mother’s garden or a park????
If you haven’t played along with our challenges on the 1st and 15th of the month – you should. We are a friendly bunch, and our DT is absolutely inspirational.
Becky Fleck has posted an awesome sketch over at her Page Maps blog and asked participants to scrap a few themes. One theme is to create a layout about a place that’s special to you. Well, my garden is my sanctuary, and it is a very special place for me. Her sketch was also an inspiration for my layout. I followed it fairly closely for my design.
Meanwhile, those awesome ladies over at Scrapbooks and Cards Today blog have posted their latest Colour Suite challenge to use these colours in a layout:
I captured them all. The greys and black are in my chickadee photo, the pink in several papers, green in my butterfly and journalling spots, the rose in my titling, small roses and my flag on the right, and the orange in my pearl accents (see close up photos). Here is my layout using My Mind’s Eye Papers.
