So pleased to be on the design team over at 123 Challenge Blog – and their challenge this month was so much fun!!! I do hope you’ll play along with us over there!!! Here’s the challenge:
And here’s what I did with it:
The layout features my youngest two children – Chris and Mary Pennington – cuddling together in a hotel room we rented in Niagara Falls Ontario Canada. I used Basic Grey paper, and Sassafrass embellishments from my stash. (Loving that Sassafrass). I hope you find the time to come out and play with us at the 123 Challenge Blog!!!
Last August, the 4 of us made a trip to Quebec City to celebrate the 18th birthday of our son, Chris Pennington. We stayed overnight in Levi Quebec, and took the ferry over to Quebec City in the morning. The morning was rainy and cold. Chris had dressed for summer weather, and it soon proved uncomfortably cold for him. When we arrived in the city we searched for a sweater for him to wear. We made the best of the day, and the weather improved somewhat. We enjoyed an awesome breakfast in the old city, watched musicians, visited sites, and finished with a wonderful dinner at Aux Anciens Canadiens restaurant. But first – I wanted Chris to experience a lunch in an outdoor café where he could have his first LEGAL beer. In the province of Quebec, the legal age to drink alcohol is 18. We enjoyed our day, and ended the evening with a performance of Cirque de Soleil underneath the bridge in the city, traveling home on the last ferry ride to Levi. My layout is for the 15th April challenge over at Another Freaking Scrappy Challenge where we challenge you to:
Using sketch 9 – April showers bring May flowers – scrap about a rainfall, or storm. Perhaps the weather ruined your plans, or perhaps you were experiencing a drought or dry well and were relieved to see the heavens open. Or you can scrap about anything in the springtime, how it makes you feel after the long winter, new life, whatever speaks of this time to you!! You might not want to scrap about your garden though, as you may be doing that soon here – hint, hint!!
Here is my take where I used the sketch for the original inspiration, but went off wacky on my own!! But sketches are for inspiration – not to tie your hands!

I used American Crafts Day Dreams Great Day paper for the background of my layout!
Little Shop of Sketches is featuring sketch number 95 for the next two weeks by Ashley Van Etten. I made a layout from the sketch for the design team reveal featuring my son Chris Pennington with photos taken at his cousin Amber Pennington-MacCallum’s wedding to Matthew Pennington-MacCallum on Labour Day weekend this year. The layout features My Mind’s Eye Lime Twist Fly A Kite “Genuine” Sky Paper”. Here is my layout:
My son Chris Pennington was pretty happy to be a ranger at Kiosk camp in Algonquin Provincial Park last summer. They would set out most Mondays in their canoes, and canoe from lake to lake and build, clear, clean up, and do whatever needed to be done at the campsites along the way, returning Fridays to spend their weekends at the ranger camp at Kiosk. What a great summer, and what great friends he made along the way. I scrapped a few of his photo memories from that summer in this layout, using papers from the Bo Bunny Roughin’ It collection. This layout is for the latest challenge at Scrapbookers Anonymous where they challenge participants to use up their scrapbooking stash. This month’s challenge is to use chipboard on our layouts. Here is my layout:

Hope you like it, and hope you come along to Scrapbookers Anonymous and play with us!!!
Little Shop of Sketches has a new sketch challenge posted. Come play with us!!! Here is their Sketch # 89 – another of my sketches that I was happy to share with their amazing design team and participants!!
My take is a layout for my son Chris Pennington, who is very sensitive to waste in the world and damage to the environment. He is always asking us if we really need something that we are purchasing – he is all for minimalizing our footprint in the world. After an environmentalist visited their school and told them how much damage is caused to the earth by the production of meat for consumption, Chris became a vegetarian. That was more than two years ago, and he has not looked back. I used Making Memories Passport Fragile paper for this layout, and used the QuicKutz Reuse Limited Edition Gift Set die cuts for the embellishments running along the banner I made for the layout as well as bordering the title.
Don’t forget we are getting ready for our first challenge at another freaking scrappy challenge … Already we have developed a following of people who are excitedly anticipating our launch with our first challenge on 30 July 2011!!! Come on over and feel the excitement!!!!

Today (13th July 2011) is the last day to apply as a guest designer for the premiere challenge at another freaking scrappy challenge … – we are launching the challenge on the 30th of July. We will have a few guest designers for the first challenge, then we will put a call out for a more permanent design team. Come and check out the blog – a lot of excitement has been generated, and we haven’t even really started!!!!
The Sassafrass blog has posted their latest challenge – to scrap a layout using more than one of their lines of paper. Well, I freaking love their line, and love to mix their papers – so I couldn’t wait to start on this challenge. The layout I post below uses Sassafrass Anthem, Yummy and Serepdipity Happy Place lines of paper, Bungle Jungle border, along with Pocket Full of Rosies and Anthem stickers.
Scrapping the Music challenges their followers to scrap the song “Blue Skies” by Willie Nelson. This layout features my son Chris Pennington enjoying some time at one of the rock beaches at Presqu’ile Provincial Park, one of our favourite places to camp each summer. You can see the joy on Chris’ face, he is just happy to be there. The layout is based on the sketch from Sketchy Thursdays this week:
Here is my take on the sketch:

Julie over at these are a few of my favorite things always challenges me with her prompts. Her latest challenge encourages her followers to scrapbook their favourite art. I decided to feature artwork by my son Chris Pennington and my daughter Mary Pennington, because, really, their artwork is my favourite artwork. I love to see what is going on in their minds and what they put down on paper. My son doesn’t draw anymore, but then again, neither do I …
I wanted to capture a carefree and childlike with movement feeling in my layout, and what better paper than Sassfrass paper for that theme?????? I used Sassafrass Monstrosity Spot On as the background paper for this layout, and embellishments from the same collection. I used kites in a layout not very long ago, and decided to feature them again in my layout. I haven’t seen them in a layout before, and you know, I love using them, and I LOVE the bright ribbon tails that I put on them to match my layouts!!! New little signature for me … I absolutely love the whimsy of them, and the double whimsy of clouds in this layout just makes me smile :). That’s what I love, whimsy!!!
I hope you smile too!!!
