Little Shop of Sketches is featuring sketch number 95 for the next two weeks by Ashley Van Etten. I made a layout from the sketch for the design team reveal featuring my son Chris Pennington with photos taken at his cousin Amber Pennington-MacCallum’s wedding to Matthew Pennington-MacCallum on Labour Day weekend this year. The layout features My Mind’s Eye Lime Twist Fly A Kite “Genuine” Sky Paper”. Here is my layout:
For my layout I used Cosmo Cricket Salt Air Coral Bloom, Salt Air Sea Garden and Salt Air Elements, along with Salt Air chipboard embellishments. I love that line of paper. The green of Sea Garden is a gorgeous muted green. My fishing net is an onion bag from my kitchen – I love it. The swimmer in my pool is my son Chris Pennington, photos taken in June 2009. Seems so long ago, he has changed so much.
Had a great dinner out tonight for my birthday. Mmmmmmm bruschetta with feta at Paulo’s. We ordered two of them so that the four of us could all have a good feast before our main course …
Sketchy Thursdays has a great sketch this week:
Here is my take on it using some Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist, Sassafrass borders, Jenni Bowlin chipboard sun painted with Tim Holtz’s Ranger Adirondack Metallics Acrylic Paint Dabber in Gold. Embellishments are ones I printed from the internet. Loving that Google …

Our son Chris Pennington asked his father to get the old turntable up and running so that he could listen to some of our old records. That kid has great taste in music, and enjoys the old classics. He had to agree, though, that the sound was a lot scratchier than what is available today.
Pencillines has some cool sketch challenges on their blog. This is sketch 218 that was posted in December 2010:
Here is my interpretation of it, featuring my son Chris Pennington using some kraft paper for the background, some scraps from My Mind’s Eye, Cutting Up font from Cricut, Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist, Maya Mists and some beer bottles I downloaded from the internet and printed varying sizes to suit my layout.
Chris’ brothers-in-law were feeding him a few beer at a family event around the campfire, here are the results:

No harm done, and a fun time was had by all around the campfire with the guitars and voices wailing …
This month’s Basic Grey kit, featuring their Oliver line, and my son Chris. Chris was in Algonquin Park this summer as a ranger. These are photos of him waiting at Samuel de Champlain Provincial Park for the leaders to come pick up him and his buddies at the end of the only weekend they were allowed home this summer. He was pretty anxious to get back to camp at this point. Poor kid was torn between wanting to come home to see his family and pets, and not wanting to spend a single second away from his job – he really loved it.
Some modifications to original design – but who doesn’t personalize them?
Here is Basic Grey’s original:
